What is the difference between Pre-Motor and Exhaust Filters?

Your vacuum usually has two filters. The Pre-Motor Filter (often foam or a cone) sits before the motor to stop debris from entering the engine. The Exhaust Filter (often HEPA) sits after the motor to clean the air before it is blown back into the room. Both need regular cleaning and replacement.

Can I wash my vacuum filter?

It depends on the material. Foam and Sponge filters are generally washable—rinse them under cold water and let them dry completely (24 hours) before re-installing. Paper Cartridge filters (common in Pullman vacuums) should generally be tapped out, not washed, unless specified as 'Washable Synthetic'. Putting a wet filter back into a vacuum can damage the motor.

How often should I change my HEPA filter?

For commercial environments (offices, schools), we recommend replacing HEPA filters every 6 to 12 months. Even if they look clean, the microscopic pores can become blocked, reducing your suction power invisibly.
